A decade of conceptual ceramics by multimedia artist Nicolas Guagnini.
This catalogue of New York-based artist Nicolás Guagnini comprehensively documents eight of his exhibitions, providing a chronological view of the development of the work. Guagnini’s work in ceramics is presented alongside experiments in dance, typography and performance, forming a rich dialogue across media.
Using one of the oldest artistic mediums, Guagnini creates assemblages of ceramic anatomical parts to explore themes of masculinity, psychoanalysis, and our relationship to antiquity. He deploys custom-developed glazes, decals, troupe l’oleic, and a variety of innovative techniques. Specific installation components, such as glass, tinted wood pedestals, wall texts, and interventions on the gallery floor using paper and coins, further animate his work and form a complex web of materials and themes.
